I want your journey to feel less overwhelming than mine did.

Are you overwhelmed by your body?

Many researchers explore how chronic stress and nervous system patterns may influence how people experience chronic illness. Research in neurophysiology and psychoneuroimmunology suggests that chronic stress can shape physical wellbeing, which many people experience as limiting their day-to-day capacity.

Food, supplements, and other lifestyle changes were a meaningful part of my journey, but it took me a long time to recognize how my autonomic nervous system patterns were influencing my experience of stress, energy, and daily life.

My Health Journey

My symptoms started to really impact my quality of life when I was in high school, but I was unwell since I was a young child. At 17, I got a bad case of mono and never fully recovered; my life revolved around sleep after that. By age 23, my health deteriorated to the point that I had to quit my job as a science teacher mid-year. I spent my life’s savings trying to regain stability and improve my quality of life. My body has been my greatest teacher.

My Education

In pursuit of my own healing, I attended graduate school and graduated with honors. I received a Master of Science (M.S.) degree in Nutrition and Functional Medicine, which informs my educational work.

A master’s of science is a specialized degree that requires 2–3 years of intensive study on a specific topic. You must first have a bachelors degree and have completed extensive coursework in science-related courses before you can apply to graduate school programs like the one I attended. My bachelors degree is in Biology Education (Biology is the study of living things) and I’m a licensed science teacher in Hawaii.

After graduate school, I completed training in massage therapy and lymphatic work. I’m a licensed massage therapist in Hawaii. My most recent years of training in somatic work have focused on how autonomic nervous system patterns relate to stress and wellbeing.
