Somatic exercises
What is Somatic Work?
Somatic work is a body-based, experiential approach that focuses on increasing awareness of internal sensations, patterns, and responses. Rather than trying to “fix” or override the body, somatic work emphasizes listening to the body’s signals and working with them gently and at your own pace.
This approach is often described as learning how to notice what is happening in the body in the present moment — such as sensations, movement, breath, or shifts in energy — and using that awareness to build greater understanding, choice, and capacity over time.
Somatic work does not require reliving past experiences or talking through detailed personal history. Instead, it emphasizes present-moment awareness, pacing, and respect for the body’s boundaries.
How Kelsey Uses Somatic Work
In my work, somatic practices are offered within an educational and wellness-oriented framework. Sessions may include guided attention to body sensations, gentle movement or stillness, orienting to the environment, and simple exercises designed to support awareness, regulation, and choice.
Somatic work is collaborative and client-led. You are always invited — never required — to engage with practices, and you may pause, modify, or stop at any time. There is no expectation to achieve a specific outcome or to “do it right.”
Nervous System Education
Many people are curious about how stress, safety, and capacity relate to the nervous system. Kelsey’s somatic approach is informed by educational models such as Somatic Experiencing® and Polyvagal Theory, which explore how the nervous system responds to environmental cues and lived experience.
On this page, you may find links to educational videos that introduce these concepts. These resources are provided for general understanding and learning and are not presented as medical, psychological, or therapeutic instruction.
